A Missed Opportunity and Our Unwavering Mission: The Quest for a Group Home for Autistic Adults

Last year, on May 28th, I received a call at 4 am from an acquaintance. As someone who doesn't sleep much, I welcomed the conversation. They brought to my attention a fantastic opportunity for the Lakshmi Autism Foundation. A beautiful home in Milton, Georgia, was coming up for sale and seemed to be an ideal location to create a group home for autistic adults.

I had visited the house before and was already familiar with the owner. The property had free-standing solar, acres of land, a shed for prototyping energy solutions, a garden, and chickens. The home was spacious, with multiple bedrooms and several group spaces - an excellent fit for a group home. I fondly recall the wooded pathways with mushroom logs scattered throughout the property.

Unfortunately, at the time, the Lakshmi Autism Foundation didn't have the necessary funding to make the $800k purchase. Our primary mission is to provide autistic adults with a place to live, the freedom to be themselves, and opportunities to pursue their passions. Though it was a perfect fit, we just weren't in a position to seize the opportunity.

Since then, the house has sold, and the acquaintance no longer calls me at 4 am. The opportunity fell through, which never feels good. However, it only served to strengthen our resolve. We are currently researching business ideas to generate a steady $1.5 million in profits per year. While we haven't found the perfect venture yet, we remain dedicated to our mission.

Our focus now is to be prepared for the next opportunity when it arises. We are actively working on building our funds and recurring income sources, ensuring we can act when the right chance presents itself. As the Director of the Lakshmi Autism Foundation, I'm committed to our unwavering mission to support autistic adults in Atlanta.

That's where you come in.

We are kindly asking for your support, whether it's through monetary donations, establishing an endowment, donating stocks, or offering other opportunities. Your contribution will help us prepare for future opportunities and bring us one step closer to fulfilling our mission.

Together, we can make a difference in the lives of autistic adults. Please visit our donation page at http://lakshmi-autism.org/donate to contribute to our cause. And remember, every little bit counts. With your help, we can ensure that we won't miss the next opportunity to provide a safe and nurturing environment for the adults we serve.
